Juanita Giles (RYT-200) is a trauma survivor who is passionate about teaching people to heal and nurture themselves in ways that are sustaining for a lifetime. Juanita specializes in trauma-sensitive yoga primarily targeting individuals who have experienced sexual trauma, not limiting to helping those who have experienced other forms of trauma (PTSD & C-PTSD) and uses mindfulness, meditation, restorative yoga, and yoga philosophy to teach and heal. They are an expert at creating a safe space where gentle body movements, incorporated with breathing, mindfulness and meditation, are weaved into one healing modality. Juanita believes that everyone has the power to respond positively to the events of their lives, that their events don’t define them, and that every event in people’s lives helps to illuminate their embodied resilience.  Believing that all people have the capacity to feel whole, grounded, and connected to themselves —body, mind, heart. Being mindful with our bodies, nature, and our own surroundings are pivotal in establishing wholeness within ourselves and others.

Juanita studied Trauma-Sensitive Yoga under the direction of David Emerson, Director of Yoga Services at the Center for Trauma and Embodiment at JRI, as well as attending TC Trauma-Sensitive Yoga - as an Anti-Oppressive workshop facilitated by Morgan Vanderpool, TCTSY Facilitator. Juanita is a registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance and has received their Mindfulness and Meditation certification with In-Body Academy through the International Mindfulness Teachers Association. They have additional training specializing in Restorative Yoga with 21st Yoga and has completed a 60-Hour Yoga Teacher Mentor program with Scott Moore, E-RYT 500. Juanita is a certified sexual assault survivor advocate through UCASA (Utah Coalition Against Sexual Assault, 2013) and has been on the hospital response team, the crisis line, and was a board member for Rape Recovery Center in Salt Lake City - providing various services with Rape Recovery Center since 2012. Juanita currently facilitates healing workshops for groups and individuals who have been impacted by sexual violence and other forms of trauma and works personally with clients in coordination with mental health professionals (LCSW, CMHC, etc).  They also work in conjunction with Rape Recovery Center as well as facilitating well-being in the workplace for various companies.  Juanita also trained with Tari Prinster, E-RYT (founder of Y4C) and is certified in Yoga for Cancer (Y4C).  Importantly, Juanita has also been co-chair for the Human Rights Campaign in 2014, 2015 and currently volunteers for HRC Utah.
